What does it really mean when someone thanks you in advance for you support, patience, assistance, and understanding? It can't really mean exactly that, can it?

i always thought a statement like this meant that you are usually unsupportive, impatient, non-assisting, and not understanding. THey are hoping their not so subtle reminder will change your ways.
